Our Objectives
The Camps Bay & Clifton Ratepayers Association is guided by three core objectives: to our serve community, conserve our natural environment and preserve the built character of Camps Bay and Clifton. Together, these objectives underpin the CBCRA’s work to protect the quality of life, distinctive character and long-term value of our neighbourhoods.
SERVE
Serving our community
The CBCRA provides an independent civic voice for residents and property owners and acts as a link between the community, the City of Cape Town and other relevant organisations.
Our work includes assisting and advising residents on matters such as property valuations, event permits and local civic issues; communicating important information including road closures, hazards and matters affecting the community; and encouraging residents to become informed, involved and active in their neighbourhood.
CONSERVE
Conserving our natural environment
Camps Bay and Clifton are defined by an exceptional natural environment stretching from the mountain slopes to the coastline. Protecting this environment is central to the CBCRA’s work.
The Association engages with the City of Cape Town, the Camps Bay City Improvement District and other stakeholders on environmental matters; supports the protection of green spaces, streams and sensitive natural areas; responds to environmental and heritage processes where appropriate; and advocates for improved ocean water quality, including addressing the environmental impact of marine outfalls.
PRESERVE
Preserving our built environment
The CBCRA works to ensure that development respects the established character, heritage and planning framework of Camps Bay and Clifton.
We monitor and engage with planning applications involving departures, consent uses, title-deed restrictions and other land-use matters; liaise with residents, applicants, developers and the City of Cape Town; comment on developments that may negatively affect the community; and, where necessary, support efforts to ensure that planning and heritage legislation is properly applied.
The Association also comments on matters such as liquor-licence applications where these may affect the surrounding community.
Supporting our work
The CBCRA is a voluntary civic organisation and relies on membership fees and donations to carry out this work. Adequate funding enables the Association to obtain professional advice when required, participate effectively in planning and environmental processes and, where necessary, take further action to protect the interests of the community.
